Elliptic de Sitter Space : dS / Z 2

We propose that for every event in de Sitter space, there is a CPT-conjugate event at its antipode. Such an “elliptic” identification provides a concrete realization of observer complementarity in de Sitter space: every observer has complete information. This proposal naturally leads to a holographic description in which the dual (conformal) field theory lives on a single sphere. Correlation functions defined on the sphere are measurable by all observers, and define the analog of an S-matrix for de Sitter quantum gravity. We argue that although matrix elements of the S-matrix are de Sitter-invariant, the Hilbert states do not form representations of the full de Sitter group. As a result, the holographic description of de Sitter space can have a finite-dimensional Hilbert space and still be unitary.
